Executive Function Coaching

Boston Tutoring Services contacted local Executive Function and ADHD Coaches to learn more about their experiences working with children. This week we are featuring Karen Boutelle who works as an Executive Function Coach.

“What I think is most helpful for people to understand (both executive function coaching clients and teachers/parents) is that learning to manage executive functioning is an inside out process. People with executive function challenges, including young children, can be at their best when they learn to quiet their minds and look inward for self-guidance about how to take effective action in each situation. Of course, developing skills and strategies is also vital, but without well grounded self-awareness, students lack the solid foundation of problem-solving skills they need for success in college and the work world.”
-Karen Boutelle

Karen started her career in executive function coaching at Landmark College and specifically worked with students who learn differently for about 20 years. During this time, she realized how important executive function coaching was and felt there was a need for it at Landmark. She became the Founding Director of Landmark’s Coaching Services and trained upwards of 60 faculty and staff members to use basic coaching strategies with their own students.

Karen has since trained several hundreds of parents and educators across the country as well as consulted and put on workshops related to executive function coaching. She is currently working in private practice and coaching college students and adults. She continues to offer her services in workshops, consultations and trainings for parents and educators.
