PSAT Changes

PSAT Changes:

Much like the SAT and ACT, the PSAT will be changing, starting in October of 2015. Not much will be changing, but the biggest difference will be the way in which the “concepts are tested and and the steps students will have to take to solve the problems correctly.” The new PSAT will require more reasoning and the ability to process information quickly, although an extra 35 minutes will be added to the time limit. There will still be no essay section on the PSAT. The major changes will center around the sections, and scoring.

Sections:

The current PSAT has 3 sections: Math, Critical Reading, and Writing Skills. The redesigned version will only have 2: Math, and Evidence- Based Reading and Writing

Scoring:

Scoring will also be changing. Currently, scores range from 60-240 for the entire test, meaning it is possible to score between 20 and 80 in each section. Starting in October, some scores will be “reported on same scale as redesigned SAT: 400–1600 (total), 200–800 (section scores).” The ¼ point penalty for incorrect answers will also be removed.
