10 Things To Do with Kids Over February Break in Massachusetts

January is over and February is here, so we can came up with 10 things to do with kids over February break in Massachusetts. Because of the long winter, it can be difficult to keep kids occupied for an entire week so here are a few suggestions indoor activities to keep your kids occupied!

 

  1. The Museum of Science is open year round and contains tons of interactive and educational activities for kids. From an indoor lightning show to their IMAX theater, there is sure to be hours of fun here!
  2. An alternative to the Museum of Science is the Boston Children’s Museum. Intended for younger children, this museum has a lot of hands on projects for children such as a bubble making station and a huge climbing area which runs down the middle of the building. As a bonus, admission on Friday nights (5pm-9pm) is only $1 per person!
  3.  Another great place to visit is the New England Aquarium, located in the heart of Boston. There are a wide variety of sea animals including fish, penguins, turtles and even whales! Admission is free for members and they offer several discounts listed on their website.
  4. For children who prefer history, another option is the Harvard Museum of Natural History located in Harvard Square. Some of their exhibits include “Birds of the World,” “Earth and Planetary Sciences,” “Central and South America,” and “Climate Change.” They also offer public lectures, as well as Family Programs. For Massachusetts residents, admission is free on Sundays year-round from 9 a.m. to noon, and Wednesdays (September-May) from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  5. For the adventurous child so is not afraid of a little cold, Frog Pond is open through the winter for ice skating and children under 58 inches get in for free! They also have skates for rent, both for adults and children. Times of operation and fees can be found on their website.
  6. If you would rather stay inside, yet another option is Legoland at Assembly Row. A store open to all is located at the front, but inside there is an entire world built for children ages 3-10. In order to enter, adults must be accompanied by a child. Inside Legoland you will find a 4D Cinema, a laser ride, a cafe, birthday rooms, and several other attractions.   7. For a child who is itching to let some energy out, indoor playgrounds are a great option. There are several in the Boston area, and some are free and others require a small fee which will pay for itself after a few hours of fun!
  8. If your child is creative and loves to paint, Plaster Fun Time is the place to go! After selecting an item, they can let their imagination run wild and paint it however they would like! And the best part is that at the end of it all, they get to take their creation home as a reminder of the lovely day they had!
  9. 9.For children who never run out of energy, Skyzone is a great place! It is an indoor trampoline park where visitors can pay per hour of jump time (one hour is usually plenty!) There are foam pits to jump into, basketball hoops and much more!
  10. Yet another option is to take a family trip to a mountain and go skiing, snowboarding, or tubing! Lessons for children start as early as 4 years old and everyone can have a great time, just make sure to bundle up!
