Keep Your Kids Busy This Summer in Manchester

In our Summer Reading Series for 2019, we will be featuring the summer reading programs of public libraries in different towns from all over Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire. Let’s take a look at the Manchester City Library’s Summer Reading Program.

Manchester City Library has programs for children and teens this summer you won’t want to miss! Check out the events happening in Manchester for kids below:

STORYTIMES @10:00 am. Starting the week of June 17th. Mondays: Family Storytime, All Ages. Fridays: Lapsit Storytime, 6-24 months.
CRAFT MORNINGS @ 10:00 am. Starting the week of June 17th. Tuesday Mornings, Preschool—Grade 2.
SCIENCE AFTERNOONS @ 3:00 pm. Fridays, June 28, July 12 & August 16. Grades 3-5
LEGO AFTERNOONS @ 3:00 pm. Wednesdays, June 26, July 24 & August 7, Ages 3 – 12 years old.
PJ STORYTIME @ 6:30 pm. Tuesdays, June 25 & July 23. Families Welcome
READING DOGS @ 3:00 pm. Cody—Wednesday Afternoons. Hazel/Logan—Tuesday/Thursday.
END OF SUMMER CELEBRATION @11:00 am. Touch a Truck on August 17, Harnett Lot.

Help Manchester reach their goal of 4,000 reading hours! Complete your weekly reading record to earn your raffle ticket! For 3 yrs to 5th Grade. Raffle prizes include: Canobie Lake, Children’s Museum of New Hampshire, Fun Spot, Lost River Gorge, Storyland, and many more.

The program for teens begins on June 17th, and any students in grades 6-12 are eligible. For every hour you read and every program you attend, you earn points toward a weekly raffle for a $25 gift card for Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Newbury Comics, or Target. At the end of the summer, your total points will be entered into a grand prize raffle for one of three $75 Visa gift cards.

Pandemic Escape Room*
West: Wednesday, 6/19 at 3:00 PM
Main: Thursday, 6/20 at 3:00 PM OR 4:00 PM
An outbreak of a deadly disease has threatened the
world. Can you find the cure and save the day?
You’ll have 45 minutes to find out.

Tabletop Gaming
West: Wednesday, 6/26 at 3:00 PM
Main: Thursday, 8/1 at 3:00 PM
Try a variety of board and card games, from classic
to contemporary, or bring your own.

Cupcake Challenge*
Main: Thursday, 6/27 at 3:00 PM
Show off your decorating skills by designing a
cupcake according to a theme that will be revealed
at the event. Then eat it!

Trivia Contest
West: Wednesday, 7/10 at 3:00 PM
Main: Thursday, 8/8 at 3:00 PM
Compete in teams to see who can answer the most
questions in a variety of categories. Prizes will be
awarded.

DIY Metal Etching*
Main: Thursday, 7/11 at 3:00 PM
Etch a pattern onto stainless steel using saltwater
and electricity. Use one of the library-provided
drinking cups, or bring your own stainless steel
object to etch.

Rock Climbing Wall
Main: Monday, 7/15 from 6:00-8:00 PM
Try out the 24-foot portable climbing wall that will
be provided by Vertical Dreams in the library’s
parking lot. Teens must have a waiver signed by a
parent in order to participate. Waivers may be
signed the day of the event, or can be picked up in
advance at the Information Desk.

Stop Motion Animation*
West: Wednesdays, 7/24, 7/31 & 8/7 at 3:00 PM
Want to learn to make basic animated movies?
Using the Stop Motion Studio app, work in pairs to
create 2D and 3D short films that showcase your
creativity. Participants should plan to attend all
three dates.

Taste Test
Main: Thursday, 7/25 at 3:00 PM
Can you taste the difference between name brand
and off-brand? Want to help determine the best
flavor of Oreo? Eat and have fun with us!

Retro Video Game Tournament
Main: Saturday, 8/17 at 12:00 PM
Stop in for some friendly old school video gaming
competition. We’ll have several game systems set
up for you to try out.
