My great thanks and appreciation to David Thompson from BTS for preparing my daughter for a private school exam (ISEE) and an interview.

While we started the process late and had not much time before the deadlines, David worked with us to create a plan for test preparation and interview. The sessions were planned and conveyed in a way to make the most of tutoring time with guidance and structure for self-study between the sessions. The materials were well organized. And it all took place online. David also was very engaging and motivating.

As a result, my daughter was confident to talk during the interview and was able to improve significantly in the testing scores compared to practice tests.

He was very flexible with meeting as my daughter’s schedule can be a bit crazy and he worked at her pace so she wasn’t getting overwhelmed. We approached Boston Tutoring Services after a recommendation from a friend with a similar aged son, who had been pleased with the help they had provided for her family.  The rates for their lessons were also extremely competitive and better than some other tutoring services, which I felt just charged far too much for less time tutoring. And the beauty was all the tutors came to your home.

I rang them and found Alexandra Berube to be extremely efficient at answering my questions in great detail and quickly. This was crucial as we did not have a huge amount of time to prepare my son for the SSAT and ISEE to enter at grade 9. She provided a list of possible tutors to interview very quickly and we chose Jim Vlachos.

All the tutors we spoke to were impressive and likeable, but we chose Jim Vlachos as he appeared to be the most experienced, and this shone through with his tutoring. He was always reliable and never cancelled a class, and was punctual and had the necessary books and exercises for our son to do between tutoring sessions. He gave him extensive homework and asked him to write vocabulary cards as well to help in his tests.

Jim is serious and quiet, which I preferred as I simply wanted my son to put his head down and work. Jim suited this method perfectly. Anyone wanting a live wire or someone very talkative would find Jim perhaps not suitable, but in all aspects I found he brought my son a long greatly in his knowledge and ability to take the SSAT and ISEE. And seeing as my son has just found out he has been offered a 9th grade place at BC High this September 2018, I would say Jim did a very good job preparing our 14-year-old son.  Jim was very pleased to hear our son’s news and is keen to see what other offers he might receive, which is over and above what he is required to do.

We are very grateful to Jim and Boston Tutoring Services for their help and would use them again for our other two younger daughters, and recommend them to friends and family.
