Lia Ortner

Education:

Bachelor of Arts, History & Comparative Literature, Brown University, 2025

Lia tutors students in grades 1-10 in Math (through Algebra and Geometry) and students in grades 1-12 in English Language Arts, Social Studies, and History. She is also experienced in tutoring students in Government, Latin, and Biology. Additionally, she is trained in preparing students for all sections of standardized tests, including the SAT, ACT, PSAT, and Subject Tests. In her work with children, she has supported students with special needs, developmental disabilities, ASD, and ADHD. She enjoys developing personalized teaching materials to meet the specific needs of her students.
Lia is an educator and Brown University grad originally from NYC. She studied History and Comparative Literature in college and is especially excited about the Middle Ages and Antiquity! She earned honors and the John A Thomas Memorial Award for her senior thesis on Medieval Historiography; she was awarded a Pierce Fellowship through the American College of Greece, which allowed her to spend the last year abroad, teaching English in Athens. There, she gained classroom experience and professional development in education, working with incredible students, colleagues, and mentors. Now back in the US, Lia works in outdoor education in addition to tutoring. She loves spending time outside, reading, art, playing guitar, and learning new languages.
