Mamoona says: “Hi! My name is Mamoona, and I am a recent graduate of UC Berkeley, where I majored in Molecular and Cell Biology and minored in Data Science and Public Policy. During my time at Berkeley, I developed a passion for research and gained a direction for my interests in advocacy. I have always valued using my knowledge and skills to do impactful work. After graduating, I took a year to explore whether an MD/PhD would allow me to combine my interests in science and advocacy. Through this experience, I ultimately realized that I wanted to pursue these interests through public health and neuroscience research. I am currently a student in the PiNBAC program to further develop my research skills and explore my interests in neuroscience.
Having navigated multiple potential career paths while figuring out my own academic journey, I value sharing the insights I have gained with my students. I want to encourage them to embrace their diverse interests and recognize how seemingly different passions can come together to create unique opportunities. I believe students should not feel limited by the paths already laid out for them, but instead feel empowered to create their own with their passions. Above all, I hope to help my students understand the greater purpose behind what they are learning, rather than simply viewing it as a set of requirements to fulfill.
Outside of academics and research, I enjoy exploring Boston and the greater New England area, especially after recently moving from the San Francisco Bay Area. In my free time, I also enjoy watching football, reading, and painting!“
