Need Help Teaching Your Child To Read?
Boston, MA—Boston Tutoring Services, LLC., is excited to announce that we will be teaming up with the Dracut Library and Community Teamwork’s Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Program to educate local parents about how to support their children’s literacy growth. This workshop will show parents how to make learning to read fun and interactive at home.
“In my work teaching pre-K, kindergarten, and first grade, I come across so many parents who report that reading with their child is a nightly battle,” said Alexandra Berube, Managing Director of Boston Tutoring Services. “Every parent wants to know how they can support their child and make learning to read fun. I am excited to demonstrate the process of teaching your child to read, and also leave you with a detailed plan so you can continue the work once I leave.”
Many parents feel intimidated and powerless about how they can work with their children at home to improve their reading skills. When children are learning to read, the most important skills they need to master are rhyming, the relationships between letters and sounds, recognizing that each letter makes a specific sound, and putting together the individual sounds to read the word. This workshop will offer a step-by-step approach that will incorporate each of these skills with activities parents can continue with their children at home.
The instructor, Alexandra Berube, is a Massachusetts-certified teacher (Pre-K-2) with a Master’s Degree in Education from Lesley University, and a Bachelor’s degree in English and Child Development from Sarah Lawrence College. Before founding Boston Tutoring Services, she started a pre-K afterschool program in Lawrence, and then went on to teach kindergarten in a private school in Westford. Her educational approach is based on tailoring instruction to the individual learning styles of her students.
