Educational Halloween Activities

Incorporating some educational Halloween activities will make learning it much more fun and festive, for both adults and children! Here are some ideas that can make the week leading up to Halloween much more exciting, but still educational!

The History of Halloween
In this slideshow from TIME For Kids, kids can learn about the history and origin of Halloween. This factual account features pictures and will leave kids, excited about Halloween but also teach them about why it is celebrated, where trick-or-treating came from, and what the deal with costumes is. This is a great way to have a festive lesson, while also being informative! They will be having so much fun, they won’t even notice that it is a history lesson!

2. Candy Math
One thing is for sure, and that is the fact that along with Halloween comes candy. A fun way to make learning more festive is by doing math with candy. Things that this could be used for include making graphs and charts, and helping younger children learn how to count. Using candy such as Skittles or M&M’s is deal for this activity. The different colors will help students compartmentalize and set their minds in a sorting mood, which is perfect for math! 3. Write Candy Wrapper Stories
A fun and creative way to get students excited about writing is by using candy wrappers! Ask students to bring cleaned out candy wrappers. Then, with put them all in a pile and have students use the wrappers as words in their stories. These stories can be written on large poster boards so they can be displayed later on.
