Get Involved

The greatest part about learning outside the classroom is exploring your own interests. The best way to do this is to get involved with school! Some students are committed to their school’s sports teams, others can be a member or even a leader of a club, while some may be out volunteering with their classmates. Dedicating your time to any school activity can benefit students in many different ways.

No matter what you do to get involved with school, I believe that meeting new people is one of the most significant reasons to be involved. I met one of my best friends from High School my first day of freshmen year at volleyball tryouts. We both clicked instantly, and as we all may know, the first week of High School is pretty scary. It was nice to know I wasn’t the only one afraid and I didn’t have to go through it alone.

Participating in clubs gives you the chance to share your interests and ideas while also learning new skills and traits from others. Volunteering is an important activity that all students should dedicate their time to, because it gives you the chance to meet many different people from different places and cultures, who have similar or different perspectives and experiences. Meeting new people can help build new friendships and make each activity more fun! Here is a link that can help you get started with volunteer programs, and how to get your school clubs involved!

For those of you who are finding it tough to find a part-time job in high school because of “no work experience,” no need to worry! Being involved with school doesn’t only help you make new friends but helps your resume as well. Being a part of your school’s sports teams can show future employers that you have experience acting as a team player, exhibiting dedication and motivation, and delegating your time. These school activities don’t go to waste; they can help demonstrate what you have to offer from traits and skills learned through your school’s programs. This also is beneficial when applying to colleges or scholarships. The more participation in school, the more colleges and scholarship programs are interested in accepting you. Here is a link that gives more reasons why being involved is important!
