Summer Enrichment Programs in Massachusetts

.Summer is quickly approaching and you may have started to look for activities for your children to participate in during vacation. One of our recent newsletters talked about summer camps around Massachusetts. If summer camp is not something your child is interested in, summer enrichment programs are also an option. These programs focus on academics and many even provide college credit to high school students who participate. These programs can include a variety of classes from computer programming, to journalism. Below we have highlighted a few of the many options out there, continue reading to learn more!
Boston University’s Summer Challenge
This residential program is offered for high school students entering sophomore, junior, or senior year. During one of the two offered sessions, your child can select two seminars from the 20 available. Seminars include lectures, group projects, individual work, and even field trips in order to maximize learning potential. In addition to valuable knowledge learned in the classroom, students will also learn about the college application process and experience life as a college student in the city.
Carole Remick’s New England High School Journalism Collaborative
In this one week program, students from all over New England live at Regis College and learn how to report, edit, and produce media. Participants work with professionals in the journalism field to better understand concepts.
This program is held at the MIT campus. Participants “experience personalized learning with a maximum of 8 students per instructor and use the best brand name products from industry leaders like Adobe, Apple, Autodesk, Google, and Microsoft.”
The BCE program offers 2,3, and 6 week long sessions for students. During this time they earn college credit, get ready for college, and participate in activities on campus and in Boston. Courses available depend on the session length students select.
