Bruna says: “I have a robust background of teaching in informal education settings, including museums, camps, homeschooling, and private tutoring. I skipped 12th grade and started college at 16, culminating in a capstone senior thesis titled ‘The Efficacy of Acupuncture and Its Implementation into American Healthcare’. After several years of being torn between pursuing a career in education or healthcare, I ended up combining both. Now I am simultaneously finishing up a Master of Education and an Associate of Nursing, with the goal of pursuing health education, using knowledge and clinical experience from one world to influence the other. My current teaching philosophy approximates a combination of student-centered and knowledge-centered learning environments, which relate to focusing on the learner’s experiences and teaching bodies of knowledge, respectively. Key areas I have studied include child and adolescent development, creating positive learning environments, theories on learning including motivation and learning domains, and ways to assess comprehension. Patience and resourcefulness are at the forefront of my teaching toolkit, as I have seen how each individual thrives with personalized techniques and understanding of their needs. In my free time, I like going on walks with my Maltese dog named Albus, teaching yoga or offering reiki to my family and friends, and hope to travel to South America again soon, as my family is from Brazil and Peru.“
