Joan Atlas

Education:

Juris Doctorate, Suffolk University Law School.

Bachelor of Arts, English, University of Rochester.

Joan has been teaching for 25 years, specializing in writing, literature, and public speaking. She is experienced in working with students with a wide range of special needs and has also worked extensively with international students. Joan currently tutors students in grades 5 to 12 in English Language Arts, including writing (with a focus on editing and revision), literary analysis, and history (especially research papers). In addition to teaching at Middlesex Community College and Bentley University, she is familiar with private schools, colleges and universities throughout the United States and provides comprehensive support in the admissions process, including completing applications and writing admission essays.

Joan first taught high school after she graduated from the University of Rochester with a degree in English, but then detoured to law school. After practicing law for many years, she realized that she missed the classroom and returned to teaching part time as an adjunct college professor and a tutor of high school students, while also raising her two children. In addition, she has sat on the boards of two nonprofit organizations in Waltham: an after-school program for low-income children who live in a public housing complex, and a day care center for families with moderate income. Joan loves meeting and working with students of all ages.
