Joana Dizon

Education:

Bachelor of Science, Public Health/Global Health, University of Washington-Seattle, 2021.

Joana tutors students in grades 1-11, in English Language Arts, math (through pre-calculus), and Spanish (she spent a summer working in Mexico, running extracurricular programs for children, and also taught English in Ecuador for a year). She prepares students for all sections of the ISEE and SSAT tests. During her Undergraduate studies, she tutored Introduction to Computer Science and later taught computer classes to younger children in Spanish. She is currently serving as a Public Health Associate with the Boston CDC and is interested in pursuing a Masters Degree in Public Health.

Her philosophy around successful teaching is that every student has their unique strengths and weaknesses and it’s a matter of getting familiar with their preferred learning styles and leveraging their strengths to boost their confidence. Joana is an advocate for life-long learning. Just last year she picked up pottery classes at Mudflat Pottery School and bought her first golf clubs over the summer. Traveling is one of her favorite ways to expand her knowledge of people, places, and things. Once the weather gets warmer, you’ll find her on a hammock by the Charles River with a book in hand.
