Jonathan tutors students in grades 4-9 in English Language Arts and Math. He is proficient in Spanish and works with students for whom English is not their first language. He is currently serving as a Middle School English Teacher in a Social and Academic Remediation Program, and has extensive experience working with students with a wide range of needs. He has previously served as an ABA Specialist and Behavior Technician, with a background in supporting students with emotional and intellectual impairments and global delays (including Down Syndrome). He enjoys developing curriculum to meet the specific needs of all of his students.
Jonathan says, “When I am not teaching students at school, I enjoy reading manga, watching anime, and playing video games. I was surprised by how many of my students are also interested in the same things, particularly anime and video games. This gave me a unique advantage in the classroom. My students loved learning about theme when I applied it to Naruto (Naruto is an anime about ninjas). Similarly, they enjoyed describing Nezuko (a character from the anime, Demon Slayer) with figurative language compared to a generic book character. While I was not expecting to be able to incorporate my own interests and hobbies into the classroom, I certainly enjoy doing so!”
