Kenta says: “As a teacher, I loved approaching each student’s learning as a unique opportunity to explore various ways of teaching and learning in line with the principles of UDL (Universal Design for Learning). Nothing brings me more joy that finding the method(s) that ‘click’ for each student and taking advantage of their inherent strengths and background knowledge to further their learning. I also strongly believe that learning should be fun, and strive to incorporate engaging tools in my instruction (ie. multiplying with turtles, dividing with cheeseburgers, and finding the median with toads, to name a few of my math lessons I used while teaching 5th grade). My approach has allowed my students to surpass growth goals on state tests, including having the highest growth at the school in the math subject test. Outside of the classroom, I’ve enjoyed coaching basketball and soccer, love spending time cooking in my kitchen, and am working on several watercolor and block-printing projects in my free time.
