For many years, she has worked in special education, as a teacher and Speech and Language Pathologist. She is experienced and trained in Wilson Reading System and Lindamood-Bell System, among many other curriculum methods. Throughout her career, she has worked with a plethora of students with IEPs, academic concerns, delays in reading comprehension, challenges with memory, listening, and executive functioning. She enjoys developing personalized curriculum to meet the specific needs of her students, so that sessions are hands-on and engaging.
Nancy says: “I am a special education teacher, speech and language pathologist, and general classroom teacher all rolled into one great tutor. I spent 35+ years writing, reading, and applying IEP goals to the specific needs of children. I teach children according to their IEPs because I’ve had YEARS of experience doing so! I’ve developed an understanding of how to best approach instruction given the student’s specific strengths and weaknesses. I have also guided and advised many families through the challenging special education process. Having worked in the field of special education for so long, I live and breathe NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND. I strongly believe that every student, every learner can be taught. From my early days of teaching, I learned that effective teaching means finding out where a student is tripping up, start there, and work through the steps to mastery. That, combined with positive feedback, helps to make even the most discouraged learner begin to believe in herself again. I love to be able to say to a student, “You couldn’t DO that last week!” and then see the spark of hope in their eyes. I also am able to provide a information/answer questions for parents whose children are going through he special education IEP process. I have extensive experience testing students to determine if a learning disability exists. I have written well over 4,000 IEPs throughout my special education career. Additionally, I love summer travel. Members of my family have worked with the airlines since I was a little girl. I was born in Honolulu (heaven on earth) and have roamed to beautiful places such as London, Paris, Rome. But my favorite is America: Alaska, Montana, Arizona, Florida Keys, etc. We are so blessed to have such a beautiful country!“
