Are you planning on having your child apply to private school next year? If so, you may be starting to feel a little stressed and overwhelmed about what you need to do to get started. Next Wednesday, May 14th, you can get the answers to all of your questions, as Boston Tutoring Services and Parent-Solutions Parent Coaching present our Private School Admission Information Session.
We will start off by discussing the importance of finding a good school fit for your child. There are many factors that go into whittling down the vast array of private schools to the perfect fit for your child. You need to consider location, academic programming, educational philosophy, and much more. We will provide materials to help guide you in this process of exploration and decision-making.
Next, we will provide a comprehensive timeline for your private school application process. After you research private schools, you’ll want to apply to at least five. You would request information from the schools and make sure you have all of the necessary application materials. You want to see what tests are required by schools (ISEE/SSAT/HSPT). The next step is registering for the appropriate tests and beginning test preparation. Your child will likely need to do an admission interview, and you will need to schedule that. Interview coaching is beneficial at this time to prep children for the questions they will face during the interview. It is necessary to request recommendations from teachers, and write admission essays. We will provide insights into how to write a top-notch admission essay.
Our parent coaching specialist will then provide strategic planning advice for you and your child, keeping in mind the expected stressors that you will face along the way. It is important to make the application process collaborative between you and your child, and also encourage your child to take ownership of the choices that are being made, because they will change the shape of your child’s future. We will provide expert advice on how to communicate effectively with your child throughout the process to minimize anxiety.
