.With summer vacation quickly approaching, you may be starting to wonder about how to keep your child active and having fun over the break. We know this isn’t always an easy task, so if you’d like some ideas to kick off the summer, please see below our list of some June special-needs events in Massachusetts.
Accessible & Adaptive Recreation Fair
WHERE: Artesani Park/Herter Park, Brighton, MA
WHEN: June 3rd, 2017, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Free and open to the public! There will be adaptive cycling, face painting, kite decorating, letterboxing, equipment demonstrations, refreshments, music, and more. Enjoy scenic views of the Charles River and make social connections while signing up for disability-friendly adaptive summer programs like sailing, kayaking, canoeing, cycling, hiking and more.
Down Syndrome New Family Social
WHERE: Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress Office, Burlington
WHEN: June 3rd, 2017, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Families of children with Down syndrome three years old and younger, as well as expectant families, are invited to join MDSC staff and other families for an informal get-together with light refreshments. Siblings and grandparents welcome. Meet other families and learn more about MDSC and other helpful resources.
Adaptive Climbing Group
WHERE: Central Rock Gym, Worcester
WHEN: June 4th, 2017, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
For both new and seasoned climbers, this event will be an opportunity to have fun and connect with fellow adaptive climbers. Participants must be age 13+ or have direct parental supervision at all time. All skill levels and disabilities welcome. Requires advance registration.
Adaptive Sailing for all Ages
WHERE: Courageous Sailing, Charlestown
WHEN: June 10th, 2017, 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Adaptive Sailing Days are an opportunity for adults and kids with a disability to come out for a free one-hour sail with an instructor from Courageous Sailing. A hoyer lift and physically adaptive boats are available for participants who use wheelchairs. Families and friends are welcome, and lunch and bottled water are provided.
Special Olympics Night at Fenway Park
WHERE: Fenway Park, Boston
WHEN: June 12th, 2017, 7 p.m.
Join Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) to celebrate Special Olympics Night at Fenway Park. All families, friends and athletes are encouraged to come together to celebrate while watching the Boston Red Sox take on the Philadelphia Phillies. Please keep in mind this is a regularly-priced event that requires a ticket purchase.
