Motion Math: Zoom ($2.99)–numbers. This app for elementary students helps kids learn numbers and decimals with a fun and engaging game. Motion Math Zoom features the world’s most interactive number line – kids have a blast exploring numbers as they gain a deep understanding of place value. Features fun exploration into negatives, decimals, and number lines.
Mathmateer ($1.99)–applying math. In this app featured in the New York Times, students complete math problems in order to build their own rockets and use them to explore space. Features 56 different math missions that range in difficulty from even/odd numbers all the way to square roots, so kids and their parents can enjoy hours of fun while learning math.
KickBox (free)–visual math. KickBox and its penguin mascot Jiji helps students learn key math concepts visually. Students use mirrors and position lasers to knock boulders out of the way for the penguin. This app is a great tool to reinforce multi-step thinking, and also supports multiplayer profiles so you can play along with your child.
Elevated Math (free)–numbers. This free app walks students through basic math problems to learn numbers, algebra, measurements, geometry, and more. The lessons bundled in this app are recommended for grades four to eight. According to the site, you can also use this app for both SAT and ACT studying. If you download the app to an iPad, you can also access a handy whiteboard feature for working out math problems.
Math Blaster ($1.99)–math game. We’re big fans of fun learning! Designed for ages six and up, this game looks like something out of an arcade–it’s brightly colored, fast-paced, and engaging. It includes three game levels and 30 math lessons. Outsmart the alien robots, blast through the razor sharp blockades and speed past the stars on this mega-math adventure.
