Why I Love Teaching

.Teaching is one of the most important jobs in our society. Teachers prepare the future generation of students for the world beyond the classroom. While it is often an underappreciated profession, teachers showcase their passion for their work. I have been working with children for six years, and love teaching. But why do teachers love teaching?
Teaching is not like any other job. Other jobs can be uneventful; clock in, clock out. Teaching is a much more interactive and collaborative profession. Teachers get the opportunity to work with younger children. I, for instance, worked with kindergarten-aged children. They allowed me to gain new perspective. Because of my work with children, I have become more adventurous, patient, and understanding. They make me a better person, in and out of the classroom.
For most educators, teaching is not just a job. Teaching is their way of life. It’s more than something that just pays the bills. Sharing their knowledge with others is a part of who teachers are. When I worked with my kindergartners, I realized how much knowledge I took for granted. In the Spring, my students and I discussed how caterpillars become butterflies, and my students were amazed. We even had a caterpillar as a classroom pet, and watched the insect go through the different stages of metamorphosis. The students loved learning about the transition and engaging with the subject matter first-hand. Information and experience I take for granted are cherished by my students.
The most important reason to become a teacher is to make a difference. Students are our future. Teachers have a direct impact on their students, and can create a better society by positively encouraging them. Teachers also greatly impact the individual students’ lives. Whenever a school year ends, my students show me how much they care about me by giving me drawings or pictures, something to remember them by. It inspires me how much change and growth I see in my students at the end of the year.
Teaching is much more than a career. Even now, I am able to learn from my students as much as I teach them.
