Keep Your Kids Busy This Summer in Taunton

In our Summer Reading Series for 2019, we will be featuring the summer reading programs of public libraries in different towns from all over Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire. Let’s take a look at the Taunton Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, A Universe of Stories.

Taunton Public Library’s Summer Reading Program is a self-paced, non-competitive program designed to help children track their reading and expand their literacy skills over the summer. The program is for children of all ages!
 Children who are not yet reading on their own will count the minutes that someone reads to them.
 Beginning readers can count minutes they read on their own, minutes they read to someone else, or minutes anyone reads to them.
 Experienced readers should read on their own, but can also count time spent reading to someone else.
 Reading aloud together is a great way to share a book – or listen to an audiobook from the library!
 Even babies have their very own reading log with literacy-based activities to do with an adult.

There are also a number of events you won’t want to miss, including:
BOOK SWAP. (Children’s books of all levels.) June 17-August 16: Drop in anytime. Bring up to 3 gently used books to trade in for new-to-you ones! Earn free books!
READ AND BEAD! Ages 4 and up. Receive a brag tag and necklace upon sign-up. Track every 15 minutes you read and earn special beads!
RUBBER DUCKY CLUB. Ages 0-4. Receive a rubber ducky for signing up! Track your reading with a special activity log.
COOL FUN! The library is air conditioned! This includes the summer kickoff party, tie dye, cosmic fun, kindness, storytimes, fairy gardens, outdoor play, glow dance parties, perler beads, and more!
