Questions About the ISEE Online Version? We Can Help

When it comes to taking the ISEE, there are some crucial differences between the paper test and the online version. Check out this list of FAQs and answers to find out more.

What is the difference between the ISEE and ISEE Online?

The ISEE and ISEE Online offer the same high standards for admission assessment. The ISEE Online modality provides schools and families even greater choices and flexibility. The only difference between taking the paper-pencil or the online ISEE is the format of the test. Instead of writing answers on a paper answer sheet and writing the essay by hand, the student taking the online version will answer all questions using a computer and will type out the essay.

How should my school decide which ISEE modality is best suited for us and our applicants?

One of the primary benefits for schools of the ISEE Online is the rapid turn-around time for both scores and payments to your staff.  A school does not need to choose between the paper/pencil and online modalities. In fact, your school may administer both modalities, depending on the particular needs of you and your applicants. For example, you may choose to administer the paper/pencil version to most applicants during the traditional testing season, yet offer the online version in a special situation such as an applicant visiting the school from out-of-town for just one day. The choice of modalities creates a customized approach for your school and students.

Can an applicant take the ISEE in the paper/pencil version, and then take the online version?

Yes, students may register to take the paper-pencil or online version of the ISEE up to three times in a 12-month admission cycle, once in any or all of three testing seasons. The seasons are Fall (August–November), Winter (December–March), and Spring/Summer (April–July). ISEE does not encourage multiple testing, but we do offer students and families that option.

Are accommodations available for ISEE Online?

Certain accommodations are available with the ISEE Online when it is taken at an ERB member school. Please contact iseeaccommodations@erblearn.org or call 646-503-2613 for additional details.

Are all levels of the ISEE available in the online version?

Yes. All levels of the ISEE are available in the online modality, and entrance to grades 5-12 is also available in the traditional paper/pencil format.
