August Adventures with Highland Street Foundation

31 days, 31 events, 100% FREE! August Adventures 2024 provides access and opportunities to new and old partners highlighting the geographical and cultural diversity of the Massachusetts arts and culture community. Please note some organizations are requiring advanced registration.

Kroc Summer Movie Nights
When: Friday, August 2, 2024 at 6:00 PM
Where: 650 Dudley St, Dorchester, MA

Join us for the third night of our Summer Movie Nights on August 2 at 6:00 PM at the Boston Kroc field! We’ll be featuring the thrilling movie ‘Eternals’ and hosting a resource fair for the community. This event is open to everyone of all ages, and it’s a great opportunity to connect with local organizations.

Sensory-Friendly Summer Send-Off Carnival
When: Saturday 8/3/24, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Where: Bierman Autism Center, Bedford, MA
Age: all ages
Cost: free
Celebrate the End of Summer in the most sensational way at the Sensory-Friendly Summer Send-Off Carnival! Come to Bierman Autism Centers in Bedford as we bid farewell to the sunny days and welcome the new school year with open arms. Our carnival is tailor-made for sensory delight and family fun. Games, face painting, sweet treats, and more. Our festival is free and designed for everyone in the special needs community.

Mayor’s Summer Movie Nights in the Parks
When: various dates between 8/6/24 and 8/29/24
Where: Boston public parks
Age: kids, teens, adults
Cost: free
In parks citywide, Bostonians can enjoy popular films under the night skies with this popular series. Mayor’s Movie Nights are part of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s ParkARTS program. They are held in August and September at Boston area parks, and shows begin at dusk (approximately 7:45 – 8:00 PM). Free popcorn will be provided by AMC Loews Theatres.

Boston SummerFest
When: Saturday 8/10/24, 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Where: 383 Dorchester Ave., Boston, MA
Age: all ages
Cost: free
Soak up the sun and celebrate summer at The LOT’s Summerfest! Gather your friends and family for an unforgettable afternoon filled with outdoor activities and good music. From lawn games to picnics and everything in between, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Blooms & Bouquets
When: Thursday 8/22/24 5:30 PM
Where: 11 French Drive, Boylston, MA
Age: 7-12 years
Cost: $26 Member Child; $36 Child
Sunflowers, yarrow, hibiscus oh my! Adventure through our gardens and identify our late summer blooms that can make the perfect seasonal flower arrangement. Participants will learn about the art of flower arranging and help us to harvest flowers in the Climate Garden to create a floral arrangement to cherish the end of summer at home. Please note each child will walk away with one flower arrangement.

Solar ‘Scopes with Brian Mernoff at Discovery Museum
When: Saturday 8/31/24, 10:00–11:00 AM and 1:00–2:00 PM
Where: Discovery Museum, 177 Main Street (Route 27), Acton, MA
Age: all ages
Cost: included with museum admission
Join local astrophotographer Brian Mernoff and try looking through some solar telescopes. Weather permitting, we will safely see the sun in ways you haven’t before! Test out some other tools that let us explore light and go on a “light” scavenger hunt. Inclement weather may result in changes to the program, or cancellation.
